What do we do?
We have a unique skill set that just isn’t out there. We draw inspiration from the fields of emergency medicine, ocean lifesaving and Nordic mountaineering. Our main point of pride are our guides who provide an all-time service, both in the planning aspect, but also in the expertise of the knowledge and skill base they bring to the table. Our aim is to provide a unique service to the world of surfing. All of our guides are exceptionally competent in what we see as the “three pillars of surf adventure.”
-
Essentially everyone on the team has a background in some branch of life-saving. Every trip will have guides with extensive knowledge and experience in emergency medicine and ocean lifesaving.
On top of this, we’re all survivalists at heart - we love roughing it. Should the trip necessitate it, we’ll make sure the crew is well-equipped to handle any survival situation.
-
We pride ourselves in travel-expertise. This has been a process of trial-by-error over many years. We will lead you through any 3rd world airport , marketplace or border-crossing with minimal hassle.
Part of our learning curve has been a decreased reliance on forecasting services. We make our own informed decisions on where’s gonna be best, and the proof’s in the pudding - check our photos.
-
Surfing isn’t just about what you can do on a wave. Our guides have less focus on pure ripping and more focus on a holistic approach. They’ll help you improve wave selection, technique, fitness and nutrition - all with the goal of paying dividends in your surfing ability.
Shoot us a message, and we can even organize a trip with a certified surf-coach where you’ll get in-the-lineup feedback on your surf-technique.
What we offer:
-
These guides are along for the ride, start to finish. We guarantee coverage of all 3 pillars. The usual guide composition is a medical professional, lifeguard and a local.
-
We will manage all the “bullshit” - we’ll book flights (usually last-minute), organize with local transportation services, plan what we’re gonna eat each day, make sure you got the right visas, and much-much more.
-
Around 12 hours of (relative) formal instruction per trip, as at least one guide is always an instructor. Topics are your choice, check the course page for inspiration.
-
We’ll do some consultations as needed to work out your training and nutrition before the trip so you’re ready to shred.
-
We’re in contact with the local medical services. We’ll bring about 1-2 thousand dollars worth of medical equipment on the trip. Anything we don’t use (hopefully all of it) is donated at the end of the trip.
-
We’ll treat you on the spot or continue treatment all the way up until the handover with an insurance-approved provider. We’ll have the equipment needed to do some pretty advanced medical procedures should need be. We’re well-versed in evacuation procedures for each country, so trust us when we say you’re in good hands.
What we do NOT offer:
-
We are by no means looking to cut costs anywhere on these expeditions. We will do whatever it takes to score and we give very generously to the local communities that humbly host us. (Note: we’ve travelled on tight budgets for years, so we can give some tricks and tips during a short consultation)
-
We do not pack our trips with people who don’t know each other from before. The only people on the trip are the few others you decide to take with you. Parent-kid trips and buddy trips are our specialty.
-
These trips are missions for the experienced surfer who can handle a variety of conditions. We will gladly tailor trips from intermediate-level and above, but the places we travel to are generally not conductive to learning how to surf.
-
Remote surf-travel is inherently risky. We’ve built our expertise off of the idea of limiting this risk as much as possible, but it’ll never be zero. Muggings, motor-vehicle collisions, natural disasters and attacks by monolithic creatures are all within the realm of possibility.
-
Don’t get me wrong… we’re all at-least hobby photographers, but getting your barrel shot will not be our main focus. Remember, no geo-tagging. We believe in the search - don’t ruin it for the next guy by giving away where the spots are.
-
We’ve learned (through experience) that the most dedicated surfers don’t party - the time schedules just don’t match up. Early to bed and early rising is the name of the game on these trips. If you wanna take a night on the town, it’s at your own discretion.
Locations:
Compared with our courses and scouting where anywhere is fair game, our client-paid expeditions will only be held in locations that meet some very specific criteria. For the time being, we offer four general areas based on the following:
Something to offer surfers from different parts of the world, such as showing off the desolate corners of North America to our friends from across the pond; or showing our mid-latitude friends what the arctic circle has to offer.
Frontier potential, meaning only a select few people put in the effort to go this far. In an effort to avoid blowing up “secret spots”, we generally choose areas so far away that the spots aren’t even held secret by the locals - they’re just stoked to see another surfer.
Tying into the previous point, no localism. We avoid localism like the plague. If the spot is crowded enough to experience localism, we take that as a sign that we haven't travelled far enough away from civilization.
An acceptable danger to score ratio - so that means no rivermouths in the middle of wet-season, no active warzones and no cartel hotspots.
Where does the price come from?
One of our goals is to be completely transparent in our pricing. We cut no corners, but we also try to be realistic in what each element of the trip really costs. Each trip will have a customized budget, plus a buffer to ensure that extra costs can be covered. At the end of the trip, we review the receipts and spreadsheets together and all leftover money is returned to the client.
Check out this video where we go through an example budget for a trip to Central America:
